In May 2006 I visited Colorado National Monument and hiked up one of the canyons. I came across three beautiful collared lizards. Only one allowed me to get close enough for a great shot of its body, and then it turned and hissed at me baring its mouth in an aggressive pose before darting off among the rocks.
