In the spring of 2005 the wildflowers bloomed all over Socorro County putting on a spectacular show that I had not witnessed in the 18 years I have lived here. Flowers I had never seen before sprung up through the hard stony desert floor.
By late April the river terraces south of my house were a carpet of brilliant white Evening Primrose. As their name implies they open in the early evening and wilt soon after sunrise
In the late afternoon I walked the myriad of trails south of my house photographing the spring flowers. In 2004 Evening Primroses flourished in the Chupadera Mountains southwest of town. In 2005 they were more scattered in their profusion creating dashes of white snug against the stony desert floor.
I created this piece with the above image from which, I made a collage and then spent a joyful week creating a whole series of images reflecting the soft and brilliant color of this delicate desert wildflower.
