Milkweed

The spring of 2005 was a magical time in Socorro County. Wildflowers that had not bloomed in years sprung up all over the desert. From mid March to the end of May the desert floor was a riot of color.
As the color faded the soft green Sand Milkweed flourished alongside the gravel roads in the Chupadera Mountains, a haven for tarantula hawks their black bodies highlighted by bright orange wings. The symmetry of the large almost sensual oval leaves drew me over a two week period to take hundreds of pictures of these elegant weeds.
